The transport sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP is over 13%, but Lithuania has no clear transport strategy which could be implemented. The representatives of various fractions in Seimas doubt whether consensus could be reached regarding this among the national parties.

The European Commission has warned Lithuania about sanctions over two issues: the market domination of its state-owned railway company and restrictions on selling land to foreigners. Minister of Transport Rimantas Sinkevičius says the sanctions are not unexpected.

The road maintenance and development program (KPPP) finance estimates submitted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications were approved by the government on Monday. The amount earmarked for road development and maintenance was €454 million, or 16.8 percent, larger than it was in 2015.
