Act of vandalism against monument to freedom fighter may be related to 9 May

The national defence minister says that the act of vandalism against a monument to freedom fighter Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas in Merkinė, southern town of Lithuania, is a humiliation of the “pillars of statehood”. It may be connected to Russia’s upcoming celebration of victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, he noted.

“The defacing only testifies to the fact that, besides information struggles, besides disinformation, we are faced with blatant hostility to our historical symbols. The defaced monument to Adolfas Ramanauskas is not some ordinary monument, as it is the desecration of one of the pillars of statehood, which is what we focus on, for example, in civic education
