Former PM criticises bill on recognition of Communist Party as criminal organisation

Leader of the party Democrats For Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis is critical of the ruling majority’s draft law aimed at declaring the Communist Party as a criminal organisation. The former prime minister told the radio station Žinių radijas on Friday that the Communist Party has been banned in Lithuania and thus cannot operate. It was banned in August 1991.

“Speaking about this draft law, it is more of a publicity stunt. There is no need to separately declare the Communist Party to be or to have been a criminal organisation. It has been banned in Lithuania. It may no longer operate. Meaning that everything has been already said by that,” Skvernelis stated.
