PM thinks mayoral elections may be rerun in two locations

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė thinks mayoral elections could be rerun in Anykščiai district and Visaginas, where two mayoral candidates were at first eliminated from the race but soon reinstated by the court. President Gitanas Nausėda meanwhile harshly criticised the Central Electoral Commission (VRK) “for causing chaos”.

The head of Government believes it is wrong to lay the blame solely on the VRK, which eliminated mayoral candidates Dalia Štraupaitė and Kęstutis Tubis, who were later reinstated. According to the PM, the work of lower instance court, which handled the cases of both candidates, raised questions.
