Anušauskas calls to ‘use own head’ in response to Spiegel article on German brigade

National Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas says that catchy headlines by foreign commentators should not be given a role in the assessment of Berlin’s position on the deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania.

He says that Lithuania and Germany are moving “step by step” towards a common goal of ensuring that the country has as many Allied capabilities as possible.
Germany’s Der Spiegel published an article entitled Ghost Brigade earlier this week as German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius was paying a visit to Lithuania. Berlin has no intention to deploy a brigade in Lithuania on permanent basis, the German weekly magazine said.
