Mayoral election votes recounted in one district

The Central Electoral Commission (VRK) had decided that votes would be recounted in Šilutė district, where in mayoral elections on 5 March the gap between the runner-up and the third-placed candidate was fewer than 50 votes.

Chairwoman of the VRK Jolanta Petkevičienė says a request was received to recount ballot papers and this is possible based on the Code on Elections when candidates are separated by fewer than 50 votes. She notes that this is normal practice as human error might have been involved when counting ballots papers.
