President’s adviser: competition in electricity supply market is not how we had imagined it

President’s Chief Adviser on Environment and Infrastructure Jaroslav Neverovič says liberalisation of the electricity supply market created competition but not how it was imagined, because now mostly major companies remain on the market while smaller ones have overestimated their capabilities.

“Well, there is competition. Perhaps we should have in mind that it is different from how we had imagined it. The case of Perlas Energija demonstrated that new players had not estimated their abilities and risks well enough. Therefore, major players remain on the market, like our Lithuanian Ignitis, as well as Latvian and Estonian companies. It is good that these companies are big players as in a certain sense we may feel safer and more confident because they have adequate financial capacity to deal with challenges,” Neverovič told the radio station Žinių radijas on Tuesday.
