Seimas bans free lightweight plastic bags as of mid-2023

As of 1 July 2023, shops will not be able to hand out lightweight plastic bags free of charge, the Seimas decided on Thursday. An exemption will apply only for packaging meat and fish products.

The Parliament adopted amendments to the law on packaging and packaging waste by 89 votes, with 4 votes against and 13 abstentions.
