Interior minister concerned about latest developments with irregular migration

Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė said at a press conference on Wednesday that the situation with irregular migration from Belarus is concerning because recently migrants were trying to cross the border barefoot in an attempt to pressure Lithuania to allow them entry to the country.

“We are witnessing new attempts [of Belarus] to create a humanitarian crisis at the border of Lithuania and we are concerned about this. Speaking about the latest cases, we would like to distinguish one situation – attempts to cross the border of the Republic of Lithuania barefoot in order to justify entry to Lithuania,” Bilotaitė told reporters at the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday.
