Seimas moves to tax very lightweight plastic bags in shops

After the consideration process, the Lithuanian Parliament on Tuesday gave initial approval to the proposal to prohibit grocery shops from handing out very lightweight plastic bags free of charge.

Liberal Movement’s MP Romualdas Vaitkus, a member of the Seimas Committee on Environment Protection, argues that the decision will not only help preserve resources and protect the environment but will also positively change consumer behaviour.
