He will be put on the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats' candidate list.
"A man who has proved with his life, his work and his achievements that sports policy is a very important part of public life has agreed to join my team for the upcoming municipal elections," Vice Mayor Valdas Benkunskas, a HU-LCD candidate for Vilnius mayor, told reporters on Friday, officially introducing Kazlauskas as a candidate.
Kazlauskas says he's not party-affiliated but supports Benkunskas for the mayoral position, adding that his and Benkunskas' views on many things matched.
Direct mayoral and municipal elections will take place on March 5.
