Seimas opposition asks president to veto legislation on excessive personal data collection by banks

Opposition MPs claim that the latest amendments to the Law on Payments allow banks to collect excessive personal data and may be unconstitutional. They have therefore addressed President Gitanas Nausėda asking him to veto the legislation.

In their address to the president, opposition MPs described the amendments as “disproportional intervention into a person’s private life and possibly contradicting Article 22 of the Constitution”. The Constitution states that “the private life of a human being is inviolable.”
