Conservative party threatens to expel MP if he does not withdraw budgetary proposals on VAT

The Supervisory Committee of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrat party (TS-LKD) recommends MP Mykolas Majauskas to withdraw his support for budgetary proposals regarding value added tax (VAT) that were not harmonised with the Government. The party may otherwise appoint a new chair of the Seimas Committee on Budget and Finance and he may have to leave the party.

The letter of the Executive Committee seen by the news agency ELTA states that based on its statutes the Conservative party may apply measures against its members if they do not adhere to joint decisions. One of the measures is prohibition to stand as the party’s candidate in the next parliamentary, municipal, European or presidential elections.
