This marked the first time in Lithuania that a loan had been granted for military infrastructure under a private-public partnership plan, the bank said in a press release.

Money will be used to finance design, construction and public services in accordance with a contract concluded by Darnu Group and the Ministry of Defense in January 2021.

The new complex will be built next to modular barracks that have housed the Brigadier General Motiejus Peciulionis Artillery Battalion of the Griffin Motorized Infantry Brigade since 2017.

The battalion-sized complex will cover an area of almost 9.5 hectares.

The Ministry of Defense and Salvinta, a construction company that is part of Darnu Group, have signed public-private partnership contracts for the construction of two military sites, scheduled to be completed in late 2023 to early 2024.

The contracts were signed for a period of 15 years, including two and a half years for designing and construction, and 12.5 years for maintenance and servicing of the infrastructure.

Construction on Lithuania's third new military base was launched in Siauliai in early October. This project is being implemented by Partnerystes Projektai Keturi, a company of the Eika Group.

The three new military sites will accommodate up to 2,500 military personnel and civilian employees of the national defense system.
