Seimas speaker in Brussels: without justice, there can be no peace

At her meeting with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, and Women Speakers of Parliaments of the European Union in Brussels, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, Speaker of the Seimas, said that Europe, which had recently witnessed intensified military attacks by the Kremlin in the middle of the continent, must take the initiative to maximise sanctions against Russia and ensure that military crimes are met with a proper response. In addition, comprehensive support for Ukraine, including preparations for post-war reconstruction, must certainly remain among the EU’s priorities, said the Office of the Seimas.

“Admittedly, every new missile strike and every new explosion calls for acting even faster, maximising sanctions and ensuring that those responsible for Russia’s military crimes in Ukraine and crimes against humanity are brought to justice. Without justice, there can be no peace, and such cruelty cannot go unpunished,” Ms Čmilytė-Nielsen said in an exchange of views with Ms Metsola.
