Nausėda calls to increase defence spending

President Gitanas Nausėda calls to evaluate geopolitical circumstances before finalising the 2023 state budget and to increase defence spending, taking into consideration the example of neighbouring countries.

“Estonia has decided to increase defence funding to 2.9% of GDP. I am not even talking about Poland, where funding for defence is expected to exceed 4% [of GDP]. We must take all of this into account and assess this before confirming our budget for the next year,” Nausėda told reporters on Monday.
