Interior minister to unveil 1st shelter sign on building in Siauliai

Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite will on Thursday unveil a special sign marking structures that could be used as shelter in the event of military aggression and will mark the first such building in the northern city of Siauliai.

The Interior Ministry has told BNS that it has worked out recommendations for municipalities for the selection and marking of shelters.

The process of marking structures with the special shelter sign is starting in Siauliai on Thursday. So far, only collective protection structures have been marked in Lithuania.

Such structures are designed for short-term protection, up to a few hours, to provide shelter from the threat of direct and indirect shelling in the event of military aggression.

Efforts to identify premises and buildings that could be used for shelters began in Lithuania after Russia invaded Ukraine.
