Social Democratic MP Gintautas Paluckas says the ministers should be more decisive in defending Lithuania’s interests, rallying partner countries and demanding to review regilations of the Nord Pool power market.

Paluckas stated on Wednesday that “cosmic electricity prices is the outcome of regulations existing in the power market”, as they are set taking into account the highest price. According to him, market rules must be re-evaluated taking into account the current situation and anomalies. “If existing regulations continue to be applied, Lithuania will continue to be robbed,” said Paluckas.

The MP called to exert political pressure on Norwegian and Swedish companies that establish conditions in the Nord Pool power market. To achieve this, he said the two ministers must be more active instead of “telling decade old stories about a nuclear power plant”.

The MP also called on the Ministry of Energy to evaluate the situation in the Baltpool biofuel market as well, where the price is set taking into account the highest price.

On Tuesday, Minister Kreivys addressed the electricity market regulator asking it to examine whether proposals of Lithuanian electricity generators were turned down in the regional electricity power market because their prices were lower than the end price on the power market.
