The oil consignment was loaded last week and is one of the largest Ukrainian cargo consignments shipped out of the port of Klaipeda, Aloyzas Kuzmarskis, Bega's board chairman, pointed out.
"This tanker is unique as it has taken out the first large independent consignment of Ukrainian export oil," he said in a statement.
The company did not specify where the cargo was shipped, but a bit earlier Bega loaded a pilot consignment of Ukrainian oil and it was shipped to the French port of Dunkirk.
Bega has been accepting agricultural products from Ukraine, brought in by rail and road, since May. Since then, corn, cereals and oil have been shipped through Bega in smaller or combined batches with Lithuanian cargo. Kuzmarskis says this is a promising route for the transportation of goods.
Kuzmarskis says the company has managed to overcome the previous challenges of transporting Ukrainian cargo to the port by rail, adding that flows have stabilized and logistics times have been reduced.
Agricultural products from Ukraine to Lithuania are being transported by rail via Poland, with LTG Cargo and LTG Cargo Polska, the Lithuanian and Polish subsidiaries of Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, LTG), the country's state-owned railway company, are transporting goods in cooperation with their partners.
