“We plan to significantly delay the third stage of liberalisation,” the minister said on Tuesday at a joint sitting of the Seimas Committee on Economics and the Commission for Energy and Sustainable Development.
The minister stated that the amendments would be adopted at the beginning of parliament’s autumn session which is due to start in September.
As reported, independent electricity supplier Perlas Energija has announced that in September it would move its customers from fixed-price plans to variable-price plans determined directly by the situation in the power market.
The move led to discussions that the third stage of liberalisation of the retail electricity supply market might be postponed.
On Thursday, the Lithuanian Energy Agency (LEA) stated that participants in the third stage of power market liberalisation were actively choosing independent electricity suppliers and 50% of 820,000 of consumers participating in the third stage have already concluded agreements with an independent electricity supplier.
The third stage of market liberalisation is for households consuming less than 1,000 kWh of electricity per year. Based on current regulations, they have to choose an independent electricity supplier by 18 December.
The first stage of liberalisation of the retail electricity supply market was for households consuming more than 5,000 kWh of electricity per year and it was completed at the end of 2020.
The second stage, for those consuming 1,000-5,000 kWh of electricity per year, was completed in July 2022.
