Border guards stopped more than 220 illegal migrants at border with Belarus in last 4 days

Lithuanian border guards thwarted 229 border crossing attempts by illegal migrants in the last 4 days as they attempted to enter the country from Belarus.

According to the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), 61 illegal migrants tried to cross from Belarus to Lithuania on Friday, 88 on Saturday, 36 on Sunday and 44 on Monday.

So far this year, the VSAT prevented 4,192 illegal border crossing attempts by migrants. The figure stood at 8,106 in 2021.

Last year, more than 4,000 migrants illegally entered Lithuania from Belarus. The majority of them were from Iraq.

Meanwhile, Latvia stopped 8 illegal migrants trying to cross from Belarus on Friday, 12 on Saturday, 8 on Sunday and 13 on Monday.

Polish border guards prevented 20 illegal migrants from entering Poland from Belarus on 11 August, 28 on 12 August, 15 on 13 August and 16 on 14 August.
