School backpacks to be handed over to Ukrainian refugee children

Backpacks with school supplies donated by Lithuanian businesses will be handed over to the children of war refugees at the Center of Ukraine at Vytautas Magnus University in Vilnius on Thursday.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Lithuania Petro Beshta will provide information on how the integration of Ukrainian children into the Lithuanian education system is taking place and will talk about their needs and challenges, the organizers said.

Vaidas Lukosevicius, CEO of Rimi, will talk about the company's support for the Ukrainian people.

Figures from Lithuania's statistics service, Statistics Lithuania, show that almost 62,000 refugees have arrived in Lithuania since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in late February, and 17,300 of them are of school age.
