On Tuesday, at a press conference organised by the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), Tsepkalo vowed that opposition activists would not back down and hoped other countries to support the Belarusian democratic movement.
She emphasised that the situation has substantially deteriorated in Belarus in the last two years and the number of political prisoners has exceeded 1,200, many of them being women.
Tsepkalo said the opposition has not achieved its goals in the last two years and if this continues, opposition representatives may be forced to live in exile for the next two, three or four years until something changes. Therefore, she asked for support for the Forum of Democratic Forces of Belarus, which would unite Belarusians so their voices would be heard as only by acting together Belarusians can overcome Lukashenko’s regime.
In turn, Belarusian activist Olga Karach stated that it was necessary to create institutions and structures, which would strengthen the Belarusian political opposition. According to her, now, even residing in Lithuania, Belarusians cannot solve even simple domestic issues and are being recruited by the Belarusian KGB.
She highlighted the importance of having a strong diaspora that would help the Belarusian people and said that a new Baltic and Black Sea political block would help counter the threat posed by the Kremlin.
