A building permit has already been received for a military campus in Silale District, and the construction will soon begin in Vilnius District and Siauliai.

The new military campuses will be built to improve and expand the Lithuanian army's infrastructure, the ministry said.

"The current geopolitical situation in the region is extremely tense, therefore, the construction of military units is becoming important not only to meet the needs of the Lithuanian army and allies, but also to strengthen the national security and deterrence policy," Minister of National Defense Arvydas Anusauskas said.

According to the ministry, the total agreed value of the three contracts stands around 168 million euros, and the projects will be developed through public-private partnerships.

In late July, Salvinta, part of Darnu Group, a real estate development company, received a permit for the construction of the military campus in Pajuris, Silale District.

Last year, the Ministry of National Defense signed contracts with Salvinta for this and another military campus in Rokantiskes, Vilnius District.

The ministry says the contracts were signed for a period of 15 years, including 2.5 years for the design and construction, and 12.5 years for the infrastructure's maintenance and servicing.

"Both, this military campus in Pajuris and the second one we have been entrusted to build in Rokantiskes, near Vilnius, are strategic objects of great importance for Lithuania, especially in the context of the current geopolitical situation," Sigita Survilaite-Mekioniene, CEO of Darnu Group, said in the statement. "We appreciate state leaders' trust and we stand ready to do our utmost to ensure that both military campuses will be completed within the planned ambitiously short period of time."

The construction of the third new military campus in Siauliai will also start soon and will be carried out by Partnerystes Projektai Keturi, part of the Eika group.

The construction of all three campuses is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. Up to 2,500 soldiers or civilian employees of the National Defense System will be able to work and serve on all three new campuses.

The design of each new military campus includes the construction of administrative and special-purpose buildings, such as barracks, canteens, headquarters, medical facilities, sports facilities, as well as technical buildings like warehouses, garages, and a petrol station and a car wash.
