According to Lithuania’s electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, an increase in electricity generation from renewable resources partially offset high prices of natural gas, which rose as a result of lower Russian gas supply to Europe.
In the Baltic States, windfarms generated by 1.5 times more electricity last week, hydroelectric power plants by a quarter more, while electricity generation by solar power plants remained stable.
Electricity consumption in Lithuania decreased by 1% to 209 GWh last week. Electricity generation rose by 40% to 76 GWh and local electricity generation satisfied 36% of the country’s electricity consumption demand.
Electricity generation by windfarms in Lithuania more than doubled and reached 30 GWh last week. Hydroelectric power plants generated by 50% more electricity, whereas solar and thermal power plants generated nearly an identical amount of electricity as in the previous week, 9 GWh and 20 GWh respectively.
Lithuania imported 65% of electricity on 11-17 July. Electricity import decreased by 6% to 187 GWh. 61% of electricity was imported through the NordBalt power interconnection with Sweden, 21% from Latvia and 18% from Poland.
Electricity flow from Lithuania rose by 72% to 45 GWh. 70% of the exported amount of electricity was exported to Poland and 30% to Latvia.
