“Despite the additional major challenges, posed by Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Moldovan Government can be proud of the European Council’s decision to grant Moldova EU candidate status. Given the difficult humanitarian situation in Moldova due to the war in Ukraine, Lithuania will additionally allocate EUR 500,000 in humanitarian aid to help Ukrainian refugees in Moldova,” the deputy foreign minister said.
According to Adomėnas, Lithuania has achieved significant results in the field of energy security independence and is ready to enable, together with Moldovan partners, the most promising options for the diversification of supply sources and the promotion of renewable energy.
The donor conference discussed economic, financial and humanitarian challenges facing Moldova against the backdrop of war, donors’ long-term commitment to support democratic reforms in Moldova, as well as measures to help the country overcome the crisis.
The international donor conference, initiated by the foreign ministers of Romania, Germany and France, was held for the second time. The first donor conference took place on 5 April 2022 in Berlin, Germany.
On 23 June 2022, the European Council granted EU candidate status to Moldova.
