“Now this is a preparatory stage, I think it will last for a couple more weeks and sometime in early August we may meet to discuss how the Government envisions both autumn and the coming year, at least in the broader picture, and how the opposition sees this,” Šimonytė told reporters on Wednesday.
The prime minister expects the opposition to suggest something more than just lowering taxes and raising appropriations.

“Obviously, decisions that may be needed, taking into account the rapidly changing situation and much uncertainty, are going to be prepared for the autumn session. A draft budget for the next year is also going to be prepared, for which the geopolitical and economic context has to be evaluated,” said the head of Government.

According to Šimonytė, the Ministry of Finance is already drafting the 2023 budget.

As reported, the coalition earlier rejected the opposition’s proposals to introduce lower rate VAT on food and district heating, to reduce excise duties on fuel and to equate the tax-exempt amount of income to the minimum monthly salary.
