“The matter was not included in the agenda because members of the Seimas who collected signatures to initiate the extraordinary session did not suggest adding this item,” said Gintarė Žukaitė-Zelenkienė, the head of parliament speaker’s secretariat.

She added that the issue of impeachment could be considered in the autumn session that starts on 10 September.

In turn, Chairman of the Seimas Committee on Legal Affairs Stasys Šedbaras stated that the proposal to impeach the MP was not made likely because the court’s judgement documents reached parliament already after signatures were collected for the extraordinary session. The politician added that the matter would be addressed in the autumn.

As reported, on 30 June, the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling of a court of lower instance, which found MP Gražulis guilty of abuse of office and fined him EUR 15,064.

It was concluded that the politician acted in the interests of UAB Judex, used the company’s funds and unlawfully interfered in the activities of public officials persuading them to disregard laws. The court ruled that MP Gražulis thus discredited the Seimas and denigrated the status of an MP and undermined trust in state politicians.

Parliament Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen earlier did not rule out that Gražulis’ impeachment might be considered during the extraordinary session in July, when parliament would convene to ratify Finland and Sweden’s NATO accession.
