MP initiates PACE resolution calling for Kara-Murza's release

A resolution calling for the immediate release of imprisoned Russian opposition figure, human rights activist and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza has been registered with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on the initiative of MP Emanuelis Zinheris who leads the Lithuanian parliament's PACE delegation.

The resolution was backed by more than 50 PACE members, the Lithuanian Seimas reports

Kara-Murza was arrested a few weeks ago in Moscow and accused of "spreading fake news" about the Russian army in Ukraine. He now faces between 5 and 10 years in prison.

The resolution not only calls for his release but also calls on the Western world to monitor the case and to further tighten the existing sanctions for Russia.
