"The Indian government has decided to open its embassy in Vilnius," Lithuania's top diplomat posted on Facebook.

Landsbergis met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during his visit to New Delhi earlier this week.

The Lithuanian and Indian officials discussed bilateral relations and Russia's war in Ukraine.

New Delhi has long been trying to balance its ties with the West and Moscow, which supplies most of India's weapons, but Russia's invasion of Ukraine is making it difficult to maintain this balance.

The Indian government has not openly condemned the Kremlin or backed a UN Security Council resolution that deplored Moscow's aggression.
