Matijosaitis plunged from the third position to the ninth one as 26.9 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of the Kaunas leader, while 37.3 percent had a negative opinion.

In February, the Kaunas mayor was positively evaluated by 39.8 percent and negatively by 24.4 percent of respondents.

"It doesn’t happen so often that critics are so critical," Vladas Gaidys, head of Vilmorus, told BNS, adding that the sharp drop had to do with a recent corruption scandal in his municipality as well as his business groups, Viciunai Group, delay in withdrawing from Russia after it started a war in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, who is in the sixth place in the ranking, saw its rating rise in March as she was favorably rated by 35.5 percent (24.3 percent in February), and 47.9 percent (55.7 percent) of respondents had an unfavorable opinion about her.

In the fifth place, Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, has also been building public trust as 36.2 percent (30 percent in February) had a favorable opinion about her in March, and 37.5 percent (44.6 percent) had an unfavorable one.

With the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, National Defense Minister Anusauskas jumped from the sixth to the third place, with 39.9 percent (28.2 percent), giving him a positive rating and 28.4 percent (35.3 percent) giving him a negative one.

President Gitanas Nauseda was favorably rated in March by 51.4 percent of respondents (50.9 percent in February), and unfavorably by 26.8 percent (26.5 percent). He remains the most popular politician in the country.

Vilija Blinkeviciute, the leader of the opposition Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, comes in second as 41.5 percent (42.4 percent) had a favorable opinion about her and 27 percent (25.1 percent) had a negative one.

Ex-Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, leader of the Democratic Union "For Lithuania", comes in fourth with 37.4 percent (36.8 percent) having a favorable opinion about him and 33.1 percent (34.2 percent) having a negative one.

Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, leader of the ruling conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, remains the most unpopular politician in Lithuania as 65.7 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him, and 17.5 percent have a positive opinion.

Vilmorus carried out the survey of 1,005 people on March 10-19.
