At around 6 p.m. on Mach 2, a Mercedes Benz truck, driven by a Belarusian citizen, entered the border checkpoint and stated to be taking a shipment of vehicle parts from a Lithuanian company. The parts were spare parts and were of the so-called dual-purpose, meaning that they belong to a special category of strategic-purpose goods.

"The transportation of such goods from the territory of the Republic of Lithuania to third countries is subject to special requirements, and they can only be transported upon receipt of a license from the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation, responsible for exports of strategic goods (dual-purpose goods and military equipment)," the Customs statement reads.

The shipment and the vehicle were detained. The driver was questioned, had his documents seized and told not to leave the country.

A pre-trial investigation into smuggling of strategic goods has been launched.
