"Under the existing situation, it’s difficult to identify that number, but we all understand that we are not the initial country as they would first reach other countries and would net get into Lithuania. Poland would be the first and then from there they would come to Lithuania, that's the most realistic scenario," the minister told reporters on Thursday.

"We know that around 20 percent of the people who would come to Poland, they would possibly plan to move to Lithuania," Bilotaite said.

In her words, it's unclear right now how many Ukrainian are currently near the Polish border but "that flow is ongoing and we see that from the incoming information".

Lithuania is now ready to accept 10,000 refugees from Ukraine, but other scenarios are also being considered.

The Interior Ministry says Poland is now ready to accept some 200,000 people from Ukraine. Latvia, Romania and Slovakia could accept 10,000 people each, and Estonia could accept 3,000 people.
