In her words, Russia has grossly breached the Council of Europe's statute by violating Ukraine's territorial integrity and the principle of the rule of law.

"I call on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Council of Ministers to take join action to terminate Russia's Council of Europe membership," Cmilyte-Nielsen said in a statement on Wednesday.

In her words, Russia has not only not stopped Crimea's annexation but for the past eight years since its started aggression against neighbor Ukraine, Russia has consistently taken destabilizing action and threatened and continues to threaten to use military force against this state.

"And by announcing its "recognition" of Ukraine's occupied Donetsk and Luhansk, it has once again violated Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, international law and the Minsk Agreements," the speaker said.

Russia must understand that there's no place for a state it has become in organizations defending democracy, Cmilyte-Nielsen said.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin made the decision to recognize the two self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk and ordered Russian troops into the separatist-held regions.

The US says it's the start of Russia's invasion to Ukraine, capable of leading to an all-out war.
