"Lithuania has also moved some of the embassy staff to Lviv, but the necessary functions that the embassy has to perform are still being carried out in Kyiv," the advisor told the public broadcaster LRT.

"As long as the situation allows our diplomats to work in Kyiv, they work in Kyiv," she said. "If the circumstances escalate to the point where it is no longer possible or safe to work in Kyiv, everyone will be moved to Lviv."

The US embassy earlier in February relocated its embassy from Kyiv to the western city of Lviv.

Russia has amassed more than 100,000 troops and military equipment around Ukraine in what the West fears could be preparations for a potential invasion.

The United States on Wednesday dismissed reports that Russia was withdrawing troops from Ukraine's border.
