Rupsys also said that the process of sending weapons to Ukraine was still ongoing.

"Obviously, the probability of a war in Ukraine is high and the situation that is being escalated now is mainly related to it, but closer to Lithuania's borders there are also signs or actions by Russia and Belarus that are more than a cause for concern. This is automatically reflected in our military actions, in our preparedness," he told the public broadcaster LRT.

The general said Lithuania had not yet handed over the promised Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"This issue is being discussed and coordinated with the Americans," he said. "If we are talking about specific weapons that can be transferred, it is our decision, but it has to be approved by the countries that have sold the weapons to Lithuania, so the process is not over yet."
