The situation forced both Lithuania and Poland to stop letting trucks and other heavy vehicles in as of this morning as road workers also cannot clear snow-covered roads due to traffic jams, Ieva Slivinskiene, a spokeswoman for Marijampole police, told BNS.

"Based on the latest information, Poland no longer allows heavy vehicles from Lithuania in. They say the entry is suspended because of difficult traffic and weather conditions. Lithuania has also suspended the entry of heavy vehicles into its territory. We can say that heavy vehicles cannot go any direction on the border," the police representative said.

In her words, the situation was further complicated after some drivers tried to bypass traffic jams and formed artificial "third" lanes in some areas. Therefore, road workers cannot drive through and clear roads.

This situation will definitely last at least several hours. Officers are trying to manage the situation, according to the police representative.
