"During the year, the SMCA received 6,808 notifications of suspected adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines," Gytis Andrulionis, the service's director, told a press conference on Tuesday.

"As to the last quarter of the year, it was not exceptional: basically, the same vaccines were administered throughout the year, and the number of notifications and the severity [of reactions] did not differ dramatically either," he said.

Ninety-four percent of reports are of minor reactions.

Andrulionis said there were 29 reports of deaths after vaccination against COVID-19.

Most of the fatalities had chronic underlying medical conditions, which probably caused their deaths, he said, noting that a causal link between the deaths and the vaccine has not been established.

Since June, there have also been over 400 reports of vaccine ineffectiveness, meaning that the people contracted the coronavirus after being inoculated.
