"All isolation rules are currently under review, and we need to have a look at what should be changed as the situation is changing fast and it is changing across Europe as well. I believe we will have a decision today or tomorrow," the vice minister told BNS on Monday.

In her words, the idea now under consideration is not to relax the existing rules for everyone immediately but, for example, first of all, to do that for the health sector. Specialists now also have different opinions as to whether the isolation rules could be relaxed for only people who have had a booster jab.

The highly-infectious Omicron variant pushed the pandemic further late last year but initial data shows Omicron might not be as dangerous, to other variants, despite spreading faster.

As of the end of last week, there had been 74 Omicron cases confirmed in Lithuania. People who have had contact with an Omicron case are now subject to tighter isolation rules in Lithuania and they cannot cut their isolation time short. Moreover, both jabbed and non-jabbed people are required to self-isolate after coming into contact with an Omicron case.
