The LTG management board on Wednesday approved the termination of Bartuska's employment contract "by mutual consent".

Egidijus Lazauskas, director of LTG Cargo, the group's freight transportation subsidiary, will take over as interim CEO of LTG from January 4 until a permanent CEO is appointed.

Lazauskas, who joined the LTG management team in January 2017, says the group is currently facing two major challenges: to resolve the Belarusian fertilizer transit issue and to diversify its operations.

The company will soon launch an open selection process to appoint a new CEO.

The LTG board announced a week ago that Bartuska would resign after a "transition period" in order to de-escalate the situation after Lithuania failed to halt the transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers through the country despite US sanctions against Belaruskali coming into force on December 8.
