"We have also seen a change in tactics as representatives of Belarusian force structures are pushing small groups of three, four or five people into Lithuania, making it a bit more difficult to spot and detain such groups. But those groups have been detained," Liubajevas told the public television LRT on Monday morning.

In his words, just as last week, the majority of border violations are now happening along the section covered by Varena Frontier Station.

The SBGS also informed that a flare was launched on the Belarusian side near Lithuania's Varena District, and three shots were fired on the Belarusian side near Lithuania's Salcininkai District around noon. Individual shots were heard for some 50 minutes on the Belarusian side near Lithuania's Lazdijai District late last night.

Lithuanian border guards have also launched two pre-trial investigations into migrant smuggling after two Ukrainian citizens in Salcininkai and Vilkaviskis Districts.

Moreover, two migrants fled the Foreigners' Registration Center in Medininkai on Sunday but were soon found close to Medininkai and returned back.

Lithuanian border guards prevented 44 foreigners from entering Lithuania from Belarus on Saturday.

Over 4,200 irregular migrants have crossed into Lithuania from Belarus illegally so far this year.

Lithuania and Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of orchestrating the unprecedented migration influx, calling it "hybrid aggression".

Lithuania declared a one-month state of emergency on its frontier with Belarus earlier this month after several thousand migrants gathered on the Belarus side of the border with Poland and made attempts to force their way into the EU.
