It says the International Bar Association is collecting funds and they will be used to move Afghan lawyers facing threats to their lives out of the country.

"Many lawyers in Afghanistan are being persecuted due to their professional activity and many of them fear for their lives. The persecution of female lawyers, human rights activists and people, judges and prosecutors working in the justice sector is causing major concern," Ignas Vegele, president of the Lithuanian Bar Association, said in a statement.

The association's spokeswoman Ieva Paliliuniene later told BNS "the amount of this assistance is not significant and stands at 1,000 euros but it shows our solidarity and attitude that we support colleagues and we are with them".
