In his words, the plan is to install 100 km of concertina, which is being installed under the pyramid principle, by the end of December, and the first 100 km of the 4-meter-high fence with spiral pyramid concertina wire should be installed by the end of April.
Fence segments are now being installed near Druskininkai, and also concertina is being installed near the frontier stations of Barauskas and Adutiskis.
There have been recorded incidents during the installation of the physical barrier, Bubnelis said, adding that some 70 people are now working on the project, with plans to step up works shortly.
"We plan that up to 150 people will work during the more intense installation of concertina, and around 200 people will work during the most active period of installation of fence segments early next year," he said.
Tetas has been installing the barrier on the Belarusian border since end September. The entire physical barrier on the Belarus-Lithuania border will be installed by 1 September next year.
Over 4,200 irregular migrants have crossed into Lithuania from Belarus illegally so far this year. Almost 5,600 attempts at crossing the border in prohibited places have been prevented since early August, when the Lithuanian government allowed border guards to turn such migrants back to Belarus.
