Delfi took the same decision last week to prevent the spread of disinformation.

"Freedom of speech is a fundamental value, but it cannot be abused by spreading false information that harms society," 15min Editor-in-Chief Vaidotas Beniusis has said.

According to 15min, comments on articles about COVID-19 vaccines have lately contained conspiracy theories and misleading information that undermine confidence in the effectiveness of the vaccination.

"From now on, Lrytas.lt will no longer allow comments to spread conspiracy theories that cause people to fear and distrust and discourage them from getting vaccinated," Lrytas Editor-in-Chief Tautvydas Mikalajunas has said, commenting on the decision.

Experts around the world agree that vaccination is the most effective tool for managing the pandemic and call for raising public awareness about this issue.

Last week, Delfi's Estonian website turned off comments on all pandemic-related articles.
