The majority of those deaths were registered in January when 1,270 people died from the infection. And the lowest number of deaths of 149 was recorded in June.

Meanwhile, Lithuania's statistics service, Statistics Lithuania, recorded 2,547 deaths over the same period, pointing out, however, that the data is preliminary.

Speaking with BNS, Ruta Ustinaviciene, head of the Death Register at the Institute of Hygiene, also confirmed that. In her words, the institute's data is also not final as information is updated over the course of the year as some death certificates come in late and temporary medical death certificates are later replaced by the final ones.
