“We actually saw a rather significant slowdown in the pace of vaccination in the first half of summer. Things definitely changed for the better in the second half of summer in response to our criticism and amid common understanding that, with fall approaching, the situation may get more complicated and the pandemic may take on new forms,” he told reporters at the Seimas on Wednesday.

Even though the country had managed to reach an important milestone of vaccinating 70 percent of its adult population with at least one vaccine dose, the pace of vaccination was decelerating once again, the president warned.

“Unfortunately, we have once again been observing a disappointing trend in recent days: the pace of vaccination has been decelerating and it is clear that national COVID-19 certificates are probably no longer working as a certain incentive to get vaccinated and we should rely on best practices developed by municipalities,” Nauseda added.
