They say Vilnius has known for many years as a city of literature, where famous writers created in various languages and immortalized the Lithuanian capital in their greatest works. Literature genres developed in here and the whole city is full of literary symbols, Vilnius Municipality said.
It hopes such a status will help to spread the message around Europe and the whole world about Vilnius' literary achievements.
The application has been drafted since 2018 in cooperation with the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO, the Lithuanian Association of Publishers and the Central Library of Vilnius City Municipality.
