PM: vaccination of children over 12 could start in June

The vaccination of children aged 12 and over from the coronavirus could start in Lithuania as early as June with necessary decisions due shortly, Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte says.

"I believe that decisions will soon be made in Lithuania to allow vaccination using those vaccines the European Medicines Agency has made the decision on. The EMA's decision is very fresh, it was made on Friday, and we expected such a decision," the prime minister said during her interview with the national radio LRT on Monday.

On Friday, the EMA approved the vaccination of children aged 12-15 with the Pfizer vaccine. Germany will start immunizing children aged 12 and over on June 7. Currently, children aged 16 and over can get the jab in Lithuania.

The vaccination of children aged 12 and over will start in June, Simonyte said, adding, however, that the process will take time as there are around 120,000 children eligible for the jab.
