Mass vaccination is planned to begin on May 31, with shots to be available to anyone wishing to take the jab.

"We are starting with the vaccination of the general public from May 10 and will open vaccination slots to a new age group on a weekly basis," Health Minister Arunas Dulkys told a news conference.

Under the plan, people aged 55 and over will be able book vaccination appointments starting from May 10, those aged 45 and over from May 24, and those aged 35 and over from May 24, according to the minister.

"All others aged 16 and over [will be eligible] from May 31," he said, adding that the plan is unlikely to change unless vaccine producers alter their delivery schedules.

Those aged between 16 and 18 years will only be vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine.

People on vaccination priority lists will be able to take the jab anytime.

A nationwide vaccination registration system is planned to be launched on May 17. Until then, the existing means of registration will continue to be available.

"It will be possible to register by clicking on certain links on municipal websites and also on the Koronastop.lt website," Dulkys said.

People will also be able to book their vaccination appointments via the 1808 coronavirus hotline.

All municipalities are expected to join the nationwide registration system by May 13, according to Dulkys.

"Seventeen municipalities have already joined to date, which means that vaccination time slots are already being uploaded to the system, and once it is ready, people will be invited to register electronically," the minister said.

"Municipalities that are now using their own online registration platforms will later switch to the common one. Vilnius and Kaunas will do so automatically because it is the same system," he added.

Some municipalities are already offering shots to people aged 55 and above, and some have begun giving the jab to those aged 45 and over.
