"I should praise Vilnius District, and other places I will visit today, and I will praise them as well, that we have seen a rise in activity and vaccination speed in recent days, and also plans and actions. We have also tried doing something for municipalities as well and we have offered assistance on transportation, and as well as vaccination capacity. But municipalities are working, I believe they feel the attention and public pressure," the prime minister told journalists after her meeting with the leadership of Nemencine Municipality,

Simonyte also pointed out that Vilnius District Municipality is a big territory with many residents and is facing a number of challenges. "There was a lack of believe it was important initially", but speeded-up vaccination is needed to further ease the lockdown, she said.

"But I believe we are moving in the right direction," Simonyte said.

The prime minister will later visit Svencionys and Visaginas.

Figures from the country's statistics service, Statistics Lithuania, show that 11.3 of Visaginas' population have been vaccinated against the coronavirus with the first doze, compared to 13.1 percent in Vilnius District and 19.1 percent in Svencionys District. Lithuania's total average stands at 19.5 percent.
